Are Your Business and Career Dreams Truly Yours or Inherited?
Lately, I’ve felt the need to clarify the dream behind my business and career:
What am I truly here to build and create?
For years, I had crystal-clear clarity about my soul-aligned business dream. I held a bold vision of where I was going. I had seen glimpses of it—my office, my products, and my services. I had fully embodied the dream. I locked it in: this is it.
It gave me so much safety, inspiration, and determination to walk my path through the ebbs and flows of life.
But that was a few years ago.
Since then, I’ve walked a deep path of self-healing.
I’ve let go of so much within me and allowed healing to reshape me.
My body, mind, and soul have evolved.
My life purpose hasn’t changed. But I’ve noticed something quietly stirring in my soul: a yearning to revisit my business and dreams. Something about it no longer feels fully aligned with who I am today.
So, I took time for myself. I went on a soul journey to reconnect with my truth—and to uncover my authentic, soul-aligned business and career dream.
But, soon I realized I was on a very different kind of soul journey than I had been thinking about doing.
Here’s what I discovered.
You Carry Ancestral Dreams
Just like we carry ancestral trauma, we also carry ancestral dreams, conscious or not.
The dreams of our parents, grandparents, and even earlier generations often continue through us.
They had hopes, wishes, and silent longings for the next generation to be a better version of themselves.
There’s a reason you were born into your family line.
You carry continuation in your DNA.
Your family has shaped your path, subtly, strongly, unconsciously.
You see their presence in the patterns of your life. The way you think, feel, choose, or create.
It’s natural. You also absorb what’s around you.
And often, without realizing it, you carry inherited business and career dreams forward.
The Realization That I Was Building Someone Else’s Dream
As I went deeper into my soul journey, I started seeing how much of my business and career dream had been built on inherited dreams of my parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents.
I saw how I had been continuing their paths. I was carrying their dreams. I began to notice patterns in my life that were tied to their aspirations, as if I had sometimes been walking in their footsteps.
The more I looked, the more patterns I saw. New ones emerged.
I felt the heaviness.
Pressure to “get it right this time.”
Pressure to keep on going.
Pressure to “try harder.”
A subtle fear of repeating their pain. A quiet expectation to fulfill some of their dreams, not mine. I felt like a victim, like someone else had control over me.
Where were my dreams?
That’s when I realized: I could free myself from their dreams. I could take my power back.
And in doing so, I could begin to discover my true, soul-level business and career dreams.
Dreams that may still be connected to those beautiful inherited gifts, but this time, they come from me and my soul.
Letting Go of Inherited Business Dreams
Releasing those dreams took time. It wasn’t just about shifting thoughts. It was deep soul-level energy work.
I was more than releasing the dreams. I had to release the fears attached to them. For example, I had to (yet again) heal the lingering energy of bankruptcy that had affected some of my relatives.
I had to heal moments of disappointments.
I let go of the pressure to walk their paths.
I released the need to succeed for them.
I released the quiet hopes and unspoken wishes they may have held.
I stopped those dreams and the traumas connected to them from continuing into the next generations.
I even released my resistance to walking similar paths – even if I would like that.
I let it all go. The dreams. The traumas. Everything. I cried. My body shook. I knew I was healing.
And after a while, I felt free.
Most importantly, I felt allowed to have my dreams.
When the energy settled, I saw the souls of my ancestors forming a circle around me. They were offering strength and protection. They wanted me to start exploring my soul-aligned business and career dreams with their love and support.
Those kind of dreams that would bring me pure joy.
